IN SITU EXHIBITION IN TWO LOCATIONS:

– The Court of the Episcopal Palace (4 avenue Adolph Max)
– and the Montée des Chazeaux (from 40 rue du Bœuf to 36 Montée Saint Barthélémy)

TWO ARTISTS:

Steph Cop  made his mark in the heart of the capital city of Paris. He quickly became one of the undeniable pioneers of graffiti. Gradually, he entered the world of the “Designer Toy”: he gave birth to the character ARO (Analyze Reflex Obsessional), shaped in wood. Equipped with a heavy chainsaw, the artist carves his pieces from trees steeped in history, plays with the imperfections of the wood, in search of the purity, to sculpt majestic pieces.
The ARO « Analyze Reflex Obsessional » /Wooden ARO:
The final figure in a series of six figurines, the encounter between the machine and nature gave birth to the Wooden ARO. ARO, which means Analyze Reflex Obsessional, is materialized in century-old trees that fell in the middle of Morvan Park and were carved with chainsaws. Each new piece takes the time to be designed according to the artist’s emotions.

The ARO, which sits in the center of the courtyard of the St-Jean Episcopal Palace in the Old City of Lyon, in the context of the 2019 Lyon Biennale, is 3 meters high and has been sleeping in its natural habitat since 2014.

Eltono  grew up in the Paris region. He started to paint on the street, on railways or highways. Fascinated by urban dynamics, he imagines a series of experimental actions (wall paintings, installations, performances or sculptures) that play with the whims and unexpected events of the street. His work as an artist is built around two major axes: the study of the boundary between public and private space and the difficulty of exhibiting in closed exhibition spaces. In this way, he seeks to make the observer reflect on his role in the city, his place in his own environment.

In the context of the 2019 Lyon Biennale, Eltono creates a fresco of urban art on the Montée des Chazeaux in the Old City of Lyon.

« RENDEZVOUS WITH CONTEMPORARY ART AND THE HERITAGE OF THE OLD LYON » (2018-2019)

DISSEMINATION-PROMOTION ON THE INTERNET OF THE PROJECT CARRIED OUT BY THE PUPILS OF THE FULCHIRON AND GERSON ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS OF THE OLD LYON

ON THE OCCASION OF THE LYON 2019 BIENNALE

The project is part of the artistic and cultural education program in schools, a mandatory activity in elementary schools.

The project was carried out during the 2018-2019 school year, in both Fulchiron and Gerson elementary schools in the Old Lyon.

The pupils’ practice is at the heart of the project, which aims to raise awareness among children in year 5-6 classes (aged 9-10 years) in both schools, of the heritage of their neighborhood and living environment, and to have them create and produce artistic works related to the surrounding heritage.

The twenty-one works created by the seventy pupils from the three classes participating in the project are shown over a two-week period, from 13 to 28 September 2019, at the Old Lyon annex of the Town Hall of the 5th district of Lyon, on the occasion of the 2019 Lyon Biennale of Contemporary Art.

A unique encounter between an artist, Erutti and the children:
supervised by the artist, the children expressed their creativity and created works expressing their feelings, their imagination, and their today’s view of the Old Lyon heritage, which is their daily living environment.

A project initiated by the neighborhood council Quartiers Anciens, with the financial support of the City of Lyon (Projects in favor of the Initiatives of the neighborhood councils):

the project is coordinated by the neighborhood council with the two elementary schools Fulchiron and Gerson of the Old Lyon; the MJC (Maison de la Jeunesse et de la Culture) of the Old Lyon is associated for the organization of the dissemination of the project to the inhabitants of the Old Lyon, on the occasion of the 2019 Lyon Biennale of Contemporary Art.

It is the neighborhood council Quartiers Anciens which historically initiated the project of
in situ contemporary art installations in the Old Lyon during the Lyon Biennale.

In summary, the project began in the fall of 2018 with a guided visit to the Old Lyon with André Pelletier, an honorary university professor specializing in the history of the city of Lyon. He told the children the history of the Old Lyon and its main monuments. The pupils chose heritage elements that interested them and diverted them with other pieces from contemporary art. Their creative work was spread over the 2018-2019 school year, supervised by the intervening artist, Erutti.
Among the works produced, a well of the Renaissance period, a sculpture inspired by Roman shipwrecks, a gargoyle head transformed into a frog, Claudian tables (Roman period) with a computer keyboard, a cathedral rose window, a Gothic arch…
